The Murano Glass Museum was established in 1861, marking a revival of Murano’s glassmaking tradition after its darkest era — a decline that followed the fall of the Republic of San Marco in 1797 and years of foreign occupation.
Today, the museum houses the most comprehensive historical collection of Murano glass in the world. The exhibition begins on the ground floor with an archaeological section featuring remarkable Roman artifacts dating from the 1st to 3rd centuries A.D.
On the first floor, visitors can explore a chronologically arranged journey through Murano’s glassmaking evolution, showcasing masterpieces from the 15th to the 20th century — many of them celebrated around the globe for their artistic and technical brilliance.
